The history of arterial pulse
The history and discovery of arterial pulse was a combination of great works done by physicians from many different countries. Kanada, an Indian had a theory which stated that pulse has three stages which reflect diseases in either air, bile or phlegm. In ancient times, the Indians heart rate was counted per" pal" with every 2.5 pal making a minute and also pulse rates were described according to age. In ancient China, the principal diagnosis employed was the physical examination of arterial pulse. The physicians judged the state of disease by the volume, strength and regularity of the pulse beats. In ancient times, the Egyptians didn't really contribute much to arterial pulse history, instead their theories were wrong as they believed that arteries contained air and the whole concept was unknown to them and hence they did not have ideas on arterial pulse.
